Memes

Can you hear that? It’s the sound of “Hello, darkness, my old friend.” Or is that the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme.

Whatever it is, it’s the sound of someone giving into a man that they called a “phony” and “fraud.” At least, that’s the look on Mitt Romney’s face as he eats dinner with Donald Trump as he once again interviews for a job in the Trump administration. He looks scared, broken, and maybe, in danger — harkening back to that time just a few months ago when it looked like New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was being held hostage by our president-elect.

But don’t take my word for it, Twitter has already had a go at captioning the saddest night of Mitt Romney’s life — and this guy lost a presidential election.

Check out some of the best reactions to the moment when a million voices inside Mitt Romney cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

It didn't seem like a really great meeting when Donald Trump met Obama in the White House but the potential for memes just couldn't be ignored.

Jeopardy! has been making quite a comeback in the past few months — what with Alex Trebeck rapping and calling his contestants losers and all. But last night, a contestant on Jeopardy!’s Teen Tournament took the gameshow back for the players.

During "Final Jeopardy!," the contestant, Sabrina, didn't stumble when she didn't know the answer. Instead, she shut Jeopardy! down with an Internet-ready response worth all the Daily Doubles in the world.

Her response to the answer “Roughly half the size of Texas, it's the largest structure made by living creatures and can even be seen from space” was...

Forget that the answer is "The Great Barrier Reef" because this is all that matters now.

And the crowd went wild:

Your move, Trebek.

The Anti-Defamation League has labeled Pepe the Frog as a hate symbol because white supremacists on the internet have made bigoted versions of Pepe... not as rare as they ought to be. From the ADL website:

In recent years, with the growth of the "alt right" segment of the white supremacist movement, a segment that draws some of its support from some of the above-mentioned Internet sites, the number of "alt right" Pepe memes has grown, a tendency exacerbated by the controversial and contentious 2016 presidential election.  Though Pepe memes have many defenders, not least the character's creator, Matt Furie, who has called the alt right appropriation of the meme merely a "phase," the use of racist and bigoted versions of Pepe memes seems to be increasing, not decreasing.

The Cincinnati Zoo is trying to put the drama of Harambe behind them by asking the Internet to "Stop making memes of our dead gorilla."

So, in honor of the "retirement" of the Harambe Meme, here are some of our favorites:

The zoo might "not be amused," but we sure as hell are! RIP Harambe.
