In a recent long-winded, tell-all blog post the creator of Game of Thrones, George R.R. Martin delivered some heavy felt news; we won't have our hands on the 'Winds of Winter' for some time now.

This means Martin's missed another crucial deadline, and perhaps almost worse, season six of the show will now air before it's original source material hits shelves.

Martin explains a bit on what's going on in the following excerpt from his 1800-word long blog post:

Believe me, it gave me no pleasure to type those words. You're disappointed, and you're not alone. My editors and publishers are disappointed, HBO is disappointed, my agents and foreign publishers and translators are disappointed... but no one could possibly be more disappointed than me. For months now I have wanted nothing so much as to be able to say, "I have completed and delivered THE WINDS OF WINTER" on or before the last day of 2015. But the book's not done. Nor is it likely to be finished tomorrow, or next week. Yes, there's a lot written. Hundreds of pages. Dozens of chapters. (Those 'no pages done' reports were insane, the usual garbage internet journalism that I have learned to despise). But there's also a lot still left to write. I am months away still... and that's if the writing goes well. (Sometimes it does. Sometimes it doesn't.) Chapters still to write, of course... but also rewriting. I always do a lot of rewriting, sometimes just polishing, sometimes pretty major restructures.

Let's just keep our fingers crossed the unexpectedly long wait is worth it.

With a heavy, saddened heart you might remember Diesel: the police dog who heroically sacrificed life and limb in the raid that amounted to the apprehension of seven terrorists suspected as responsible for the horrific Paris attacks.

The seven-year-old Diesel took heavy fire, and went down after taking several shots from a female suicide bomber, after scouting the apartment to ensure the quarters was secured.

The world hasn't forgotten Diesel's bravery. She's set to be posthumously awarded by the British veterinary charity, the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals; and also to receive the Dickin Medal. This medal's the animal equivalent to the Victoria Cross, which is Britain's 'highest military awarded for valor in the face of the enemy.'

We hope Diesel's resting in peace up above with an endless procession of doggy treats amidst unparalleled belly rubs in between highly enjoyable bouts of fetch. She was a hero, and she won't be forgotten.

A Chicago police officer shot and killed 19-year-old black man Quintonio Legrier, and 55-year-old black woman Bettie Jones this morning, while responding to a domestic disturbance call, officials said.

As officers were called to the scene this morning at 4:25AM they were informed Legrier was seen brandishing a baseball bat, and in an evolving confrontation with his father. The officers described the young Legrier as a "combative subject."

Legrier's mother told the press his son was dealing with mental issues and was prone to loud, but never violent behavior.

"My son has seven bullet wounds in him," Cooksey told WLS-TV. "That's too much." Police disclosed the shooting is under current investigation, and has been referred to Chicago's main police oversight agency.

It may just be a joke, but it's also a pretty accurate depiction of what you can expect this week in Walmarts across the country.

Nacho Punch, the comedy troupe that brought you "Daylight Saving" the movie, has released their latest trailer for a film about the day that brings out the worst in 'Murica: Black Friday.

This is the saddest story you will hear all day.

When his mother died unexpectedly in her sleep, Lennon James Picco was delivered via emergency C-section at just 24 weeks old.

The child tragically died as well soon after, but before he did, his father, Chris, sang to him for several hours in the NICU.

From the family's memorial site:

Dear friends, family, and supporters; it is with an unbelievably heavy heart that I write this. My little fighter, Lennon James Picco went to sleep in his daddy's arms late last night. He was surrounded by family, friends, and the best doctors, nurses and hospital staff in the world. He was dressed in an outfit that Ashley bought for him, with little guitars on it, and wrapped in a blanket made by a dear friend. I am so thankful for the four unforgettable days I got to spend with him. His mommy would have been so beyond joy to see him and to hold him, touch him, bathe him, sing to him - as I have had the privilege of doing. I have been so blessed and honored to love him before he was formed, to cherish him while mommy carried him, meet him face to precious face, and hold his perfect little body while we said "goodbye for now". There are no words, but I wanted to keep you updated, as your love and support has meant more than anything in the world. All you need is love.

Jovian the lemur, better known as Zoboomafoo, died Monday at the age of 20.5 at the Duke Lemur Center, where he spent his entire life. His co-hosts on Zoboomafoo, Chris & Martin Kratt had this to say about Jovian:

"He'd jump in through the window and we'd feed him mangoes or garbanzo beans. Sometimes he'd grab our noses with those soft sifaka hands. He was very social and calm. He was young and good-looking and very gentle."

Jovian is survived by his second partner, Pia, a brother Julian, aged 22, 7 children and 4 grandchildren. You can read Jovian's full obituary on Duke Today here.
