Caroline Macrory started a trend by leaving gifts on the doorstep of someone who needed them and running away. She called this the Doorstep Challenge and this act of kindness has really caught on.

Even a few local businesses have joined in.

Macrory's goal is bringing people together to make life a little easier. She told Mashable, "Basically the concept of the ‘doorstep challenge’ is to reach out to those in our community who might be struggling at this time of year for one reason or another and spread a little Christmas cheer."

For the 22nd year in a row, United Airlines is putting on a special "Fantasy Flights" program that flies ill children to the "North Pole" to meet Santa. This year, more than 5,000 children and their families get to go on a special plane ride to a makeshift North Pole to meet good ol' Saint Nick before his big night.

"The kids really bring home the Spirit of Christmas for me. When I look into their eyes as they're chatting with Santa, it's often difficult to keep the tears from rolling down my face,” says Customer Service Rep and Fantasy Flights Santa David Tomb. “Sometimes they share a very personal thought or a wish that gives me just a hint of what their lives are like, what they're going through and what they're feeling at Christmas time. I'm just grateful that I can bring a little bit of joy into their lives."

A 99-year-old woman who won a shopping spree at a 99 Cents Only Store on her birthday filled her cart with Christmas goods Thursday, but she had no plans to keep the toys and stockings for herself.Instead, Donna Goldstein decided she was going to use her shopping spree at the Beverly Grove store to make holiday stockings for children in need and donate them throughout the community.“Sometimes we don’t realize how much is needed. I feel bad that I can’t do it for everyone, but it makes me feel very good that I am able to do what I can,” Goldstein said.Read KTLA’s story here: http://on.ktla.com/c7UaE

Ted got a lovely advent calendar from his grandma for Christmas but no one was home to pick it up. Unfortunately, when your Christmas cheer is held at the post office you need to bring some identification with you to retrieve it. This is a problem because Ted is a cat so, because the mail was addressed to Ted, his owner couldn't pick it up.

Although the post office was standoffish over the phone, the workers in person listened to reason.

Ted got his calendar filled with treats and the whole post office got something to laugh about.
