It's starting to smell more like quarter-life for Nirvana's, "Smells Like Teen Spirit," which turns 25 later this week.

The song is the opening track, and lead single, from the band's second album, Nevermind (1991, DGC Records) and was written by Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl.

The monumental video is considered one of the benchmarks of the grunge movement and propelled Nirvana to stratospheric success.

Tori Amon and many others have done covers in homage to the wicked tune:

We'd be privy to even more excellent covers of Nirvana's excellent tune-age if Courtney Love weren't such a total music tyrant.

So, in the meantime, hit up your local independent record store, get your own original copy of Nevermind, and pour one out for Kurt.

RIP, brother. Too soon.

Nirvana joined the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility, alongside Kiss, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt. Michael Stipe, from R.E.M., inducted Nirvana into the hall of fame saying "Nirvana tapped into a voice that was yearning to be heard. Nirvana were kicking against the mainstream. They spoke truth and a lot of people listened."

Here were the four Nirvana performances during the show:

Joan Jett joined Nirvana onstage to perform "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

Kim Gordon, from Sonic Youth, sang "Aneurysm" St. Vincent performed "Lithium"

And Lorde sang "All Apologies"

Yesterday, Seattle's famous indie record label received a heartfelt letter from a Virginia Tech student asking if Nirvana, the legendary grunge band that split up in 1994, would be willing to appear in a pep rally video to be shown during Homecoming Week, alongside several other recording artists like Ying Yang Twins, Slightly Stoopid and "three famous NFL stars." According to Sub Pop's Tumblr blog post, the staff members did their best to accommodate by dressing up like Nirvana and recording a response video to be released in coming days.

At first glance, this is just a three-year-old peacefully dozing in the backseat of his parents' car, but when they crank up Nirvana's "Breed," the savage drumming beast within is awakened.

Watch your back, Dave Grohl!
