The big news broke last night that yes, Joss Whedon is returning to TV in a big way, and not with Fox. Variety is reporting that ABC has ordered a pilot for a series based on S.H.I.E.L.D., and as soon as possible.

Because of Joss' busy schedule, he will hand off the showrunning duties to Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen Whedon, but is set to direct the pilot, as long as he has time.

It's a good day, folks. A very good day indeed.

With rave reviews for Mark Ruffalo's performance as The Hulk in The Avengers and talk of bringing the character back for another solo film, ABC is optimistic about the fortunes of its upcoming Hulk TV show.

Although Hulk hasn't yet been picked up for a full series, ABC president Paul Lee believes it could debut in the near future.

"It wasn't going to be ready this season, but we hope it's going to be ready for next season," Lee said.

With Marvel and ABC under the same Disney umbrella, it should be easy for the company to launch the TV version of Hulk next year as a market test for a possible Ruffalo-starring movie down the road.

Meanwhile, another potential Marvel TV project didn't fare as well. ABC has buried The Punisher in the pilot stage, declining to produce it as a series.
