We all know the iPhone 5 got taller, but just how tall did it get?

Samsung is shrugging off its court-mandated $1.05 billion fine with a shot across Apple's bow. A full page ad set to run in Sunday newspapers touts the superiority of the Galaxy S III over the recently unveiled iPhone 5, with the opening salvo "it doesn't take a genius" (see what they did there?).

While the Galaxy probably won't fly off shelves like the latest Apple device, Samsung does raise some legitimate points -- NFC, removable battery, microSD storage.

Apple debuted the hotly-anticipated iPhone 5 in San Francisco today, and it looks to be worth the wait, if you're into that sort of thing.

With a longer design allowing for a fifth row of icons, it's also 20 percent lighter and 18 percent thinner than the iPhone 4S. The new phone also features ultra-fast wi-fi, a super-fancy new camera, and a twofold CPU speed increase.

Apple is also promising "full console quality" graphics, if you can still get past touch controls for your gaming on the go.

Battery life is going to see improvements: eight hours making calls, and up to 225 on standby.

It's nice to know that Apple hasn't skimped on the features, but can it live up to the expectations of such an opinionated user base?

The iPhone 5 will ship on September 21.

It's been five human years -- roughly three billion in technology years -- since the first iPhone landed, and while gadget geeks play a very patient waiting game for the iPhone 5, Ebay seller samsonbible is appealing to the collector crowd with an auction of the original version. Here's a friendly reminder on the ancient specs (from DVice):

Quad-band GSM (no CDMA Verizon/Sprint model here!), 2.0-megapixels with no LED flash (perfect for those grainy Instagram pics), 8GB of internal storage (for storing no apps because the App Store didn't exist in 2007), a puny 1,400mAh battery, a 3.5-inch LCD display with an incredible 320 x 480 resolution and the original iPhone OS (before it was rebranded iOS).

Such mind blowing technology will lighten your wallet by $10,000, which somebody will probably pay.
