Futurama's Bender the Robot could end up as head of the Washington, DC school board if the District doesn't improve the security of its electronic voting machines.
In a trial run of the new machines, hacker teams from around the world were asked to test the system for vulnerabilities. University of Michigan professor Alex Halderman and two of his graduate students got there first, and used their access to the machines to rig the election in favor of Bender.
They also placed an "OWNED" message on the machines' sign-off screens, and set them to play the University of Michigan fight song whenever someone finished voting. The hack wasn't discovered until two days later, when another tester told authorities that the machines were secure, but they should lose the annoying music.
Somehow, I think people would notice something was suspicious if Bender was named head of the school board. Why not Zoidberg? At least he's a doctor.
