Less than a year after Google first announced it was sending its Street View team to the Amazon basin, images of the region are now available on Google Maps in a release that coincides with World Forest Day.

Google captured panoramic views of "the rivers, forest and communities in the Rio Negro Reserve" by replacing its famous street view camera cars with a tricycle and a boat. They've left the camera equipment with residents of the region, who will collect even more photos.

Superhero Disco Dance Party of the Day

Even superheroes weren't strong enough to resist the '70s disco craze, as you can clearly see in this 1979 clip from Brazil's Programa Carlos Imperial.

Skinny disco versions of Superman, Batman, Sort-of Spider-Man, Thor and -- is that Shang-Chi, Master of Kung-Fu?! -- all took some time off from fighting baddies to get down to a song about being Super Amigos.

I guess Batman and Robin can't be that embarrassed -- they did give us the Batusi, after all -- but Disco Thor is clearly being compelled by one of Loki's evil schemes.

The Brazilian city of Taubaté has its very own Batman, and the Military Police have officially recruited him to help fight crime in the city's most dangerous neighborhoods.

Behind the mask is military retiree André Luiz Pinheiro, 50, who met with officials from the 5th Military Police Battalion yesterday to discuss ways he could help "combat crimes such as murder and drug trafficking." Details of the arrangement between Batman and law enforcement haven't been released yet.

"I am eager to know how we can work together," Pinheiro told reporters.

The high-crime neighborhood of St. Therese Terrace is ready to welcome their new defender.

Local housewife Fatima Ferreira, 52, said she thinks the presence of the Dark Knight "will help rescue the values that are lost here," and local police believe the hero might convince kids not to follow a criminal path.

Batman's first operation in the neighborhood is due to take place within the next 17 days.
