Daredevil News of the Day

It may be great news that Daredevil movie rights are reverting back to Marvel Studios, but potentially disappointing for the canned project at 20th Century Fox.

This speculative video, cut from other movies and comics, was essentially a pitch for the type of film that director Joe Carnahan wanted to make for the Man Without Fear.

What do you think? Could Fox make a good DD movie, or is Marvel the best place for Matt Murdock?

Comic Con: Fox Reboot Updates of the Day

Sigh. Another series of non-Marvel Studios cash grabs reboots that will probably suck.

With Sony's Amazing Spider-Man printing money at the box office, Twentieth Century Fox wants a piece of the action with the Marvel licenses they've destroyed: Daredevil and The Fantastic Four.

With Chronicle director Josh Trank signed on for Fantastic Four, it could actually wind up being good -- but Fox has scorned fans and beloved creators before. Never forget.

Space Jump Test of the Day

Daredevil Felix Baumgartner took another step -- a great leap, even -- toward his plan to complete a world-record parachute jump from the edge of space. Yesterday, Baumgartner pulled off a successful test jump from 13.6 miles up, landing safely in a Roswell, NM field.

The test jump took 8 minutes, and Baumgartner reached a free-fall speed of 364 mph before opening his chute.

"The view is amazing, way better than I thought," Baumgartner said.

He has one more test jump planned, from 17 miles up, before he completes his 23-mile record attempt sometime between July and October.

The record Baumgartner is trying to break is 19.5 miles, set by retired Air Force officer Joe Kittinger in 1960.

Jetpack vs. Car of the Day

The jetpacks we were promised may not be as fast as the cars we already have. Professional jetpack daredevil Nick Macomber went head-to-head against a Renault Megane RS in a quarter-mile race and lost fair and square.

He got his jetpack up to 62 mph in 10 seconds, but he couldn't keep up with the Renault, which hits the same speed in just six. He was also handicapped by a slow start: while a car only has to move forward, Macomber's jetpack has to get safely off the ground first.

The pack itself weighs around 110 lbs, including a supply of liquid fuel that gets converted into steam. Macomber steers by changing the direction of its steam nozzles. It was inspired by a NASA jetpack developed in the '60s, but uses newer technology.

Unfortunately for those of us who'd like to take a ride on one of these things, Macomber is one of only a handful of people in the world who can safely operate it.
