Double Fine Adventure Documentary of the Day

When Tim Schafer's Double Fine Productions raised $3 million on Kickstarter for a new point-and-click adventure game, part of the deal was that 2 Player Productions (of Minecraft documentary fame) would film the development process.

Now, the first part of their documentary has arrived, taking a look inside the wild fundraising ride that took Double Fine Adventure to $3 million.

Schafer is hilarious on camera, as usual, and the footage of the actual development process could be even more entertaining. This is definitely Kickstarter money well spent.

With less than 8 hours left to go in their Kickstarter fundraising effort, Double Fine Productions has raised $3 million toward their new point-and-click adventure game and the accompanying documentary.

Although the project reached its original $400,000 goal during the first day, $3 million is an interesting milestone because it matches the budget of one of Schafer's classic LucasArts adventure games, Grim Fandango.

As the fundraising winds down, Schafer and co. will be hosting a live video stream from their offices. The action starts at 6 p.m. ET.

Tim Schafer Reddit AMA of the Day

Tim Schafer's Double Fine Productions recently raised $2 million via Kickstarter to produce a new point-and-click adventure game, so Schafer visited Reddit over the weekend to answer any questions fans might have about that (or anything else).

Apart from expressing his preference for Scandinavian pancakes with lingonberries, Schafer revealed some details about Double Fine Adventure and took questions about his work on classic LucasArts games like Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle.

Schafer confirmed that his former LucasArts collaborator Ron Gilbert will be helping out with the new game, although he's busy on a secret project of his own. He also said that the engine for Double Fine Adventure will be written from scratch, and not based on the SCUMM engine that powered several classic adventure titles.

Asked about Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson's offer to fund Psychonauts 2, Schafer said he woke up with everyone telling him to check Twitter, and "I just assumed we were getting sued again. But, Phew, it was only some awesome millionaire who wants to make awesome."

Schafer also revealed that he's thought about funding the Psychonauts sequel via Kickstarter, but hasn't yet decided one way or another.
