Even though we've all seen it 20 times, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog will broadcast on actual television this October 9, at 9 p.m. ET.

The CW is the lucky station, and those Joss-friendly folks are also hoping to air Dr. Horrible 2 -- if it ever gets made.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, the popular 2008 musical web series starring Neil Patrick Harris as a lonely villain with a PhD in horribleness, may get a sequel in the not-so-distant future, according to co-creator Joss Whedon.

Whedon hopes to start work on the second Dr. Horrible series this summer, which is the soonest the writers and stars will be able to align their schedules.

"We are hard on it. It's been a really tough year — couple of years — partially, I'm happy to say, because of work," he said during an interview at SXSW.

Although the plot of the next series is still a secret, Whedon says he and his co-writers -- his brothers Jed and Zack, and Jed's wife, Maurissa Tancharoen -- finished an outline and wrote a number of songs before they hit a roadblock.

"We're stuck, basically, at this one part in the process," he said. "All of us are looking at this summer as the time when we can go, 'Hey, you know what? We've got a little free time, let's get unstuck.' Neil has been like, 'How long?' We're all sort of just waiting, but the waiting will stop."

And when it does, the results are certain to be horrible.
