Webcomic Axe Cop is an instant classic -- written by a five-year-old and illustrated by his adult older brother, the series took "juvenile humor" to a whole new level. Next summer, Fox is turning Axe Cop into an animated series. Here's an all-new proof of concept video.

The Deadpool movie is proving to be just as hard to kill as Wade Wilson himself. From director Tim Miller:

We've turned in an amazing script and done some early tests and visual development that--I'm confident--would get the fans stoked. And Ryan [Reynolds] still loves the project. So it's really up to Fox as to whether or not the film happens--all I can do is hope (and beg periodically) that it be allowed to move ahead.
Ball's in your court, Fox.

Max Landis, the screenwriter for the surprise critical and box office hit Chronicle is hard at work on a sequel. The trouble is, he might've written it too well. His father, famed director John Landis, said this about working with the Fox executives:

[Max] wrote a sequel and it's amazing… and the studio read it and said, 'We want 'Chronicle' again!' And he said, 'No, this is the sequel, it's the evolution, and they said 'No, we want that movie again!' So it's difficult, we're dealing with a difficult business.

If what Papa Landis says is true, this a truly frustrating inside look at movie studio logic. Of course, we didn't need that statement to believe that carbon copies sell tickets -- there's always The Hangover 2, Paranormal Activity, Saw, etc.

No word yet on Landis' next move.

It may be great news that Daredevil movie rights are reverting back to Marvel Studios, but potentially disappointing for the canned project at 20th Century Fox.

This speculative video, cut from other movies and comics, was essentially a pitch for the type of film that director Joe Carnahan wanted to make for the Man Without Fear.

What do you think? Could Fox make a good DD movie, or is Marvel the best place for Matt Murdock?

Sigh. Another series of non-Marvel Studios cash grabs reboots that will probably suck.

With Sony's Amazing Spider-Man printing money at the box office, Twentieth Century Fox wants a piece of the action with the Marvel licenses they've destroyed: Daredevil and The Fantastic Four.

With Chronicle director Josh Trank signed on for Fantastic Four, it could actually wind up being good -- but Fox has scorned fans and beloved creators before. Never forget.

Streaming video site Hulu is about to become a lot less attractive to customers looking to "cut the cord" and watch TV and movies without subscribing to a cable service.

The New York Post reports that Hulu plans to switch its paid Hulu Plus service to an "authentication" model, which will require customers to log in using a cable provider account. That's right: no cable, no Hulu plus.

The move is so controversial that one of Hulu's investors, Providence Equity Partners, cashed out of the company after five years. Hulu's other owners, News Corp., Disney and Comcast, have obvious incentives to force customers into cable subscriptions.

If there's one bright spot here, it's that creating a system of authentication could take years to complete, which will hopefully give the cable providers enough time to change their tune and work with their customers instead of against them.

Axe Cop, the acclaimed comic created by then-five-year-old writer Malachai Nicolle and drawn by his cartoonist older brother, Ethan, is getting an animated adaptation for Fox's upcoming Animation Domination HD late-night cartoon block.

Unfortunately, Malachai hasn't been tapped to write, so we can only hope that the show is based on his comic scripts, or at least retains their pure sense of what makes an awesome story (to wit: a badass cop with an axe fighting dinosaurs).

Axe Cop will air late-night on Saturdays, and could debut as soon as 2013.
