We've known that Super director James Gunn has been in negotiations for a possible director role of Marvel's The Guardians of the Galaxy, but according to a recent interview with Joss Whedon, it's sounding more and more like a confirmation.

There's no official statement yet, but Whedon seems pretty keen on Gunn's vision and twisted creativity -- specifically on making audiences interested in a Space Raccoon.

Marvel is leaning towards director James Gunn (Slither, Super) to helm Guardians of the Galaxy, due out August 2014. Marvel is reportedly infatuated with Gunn's ability to mix comedy with action and horror, a quality he shares with The Avengers director Joss Whedon.

This would be Gunn's first high-profile outing with a major studio, but Whedon has already laid down the blueprint as a writer-director for comic book adaptations, and Gunn's style would fit right in.
