Straight from the BBC, here's the first pic of a dapper Eleventh Doctor alongside his new companion, Jenna-Louise Coleman.

Here's the Beeb's caption:

We caught up with Matt Smith who told us, "It [filming on the new series] is going well. Jenna brings a really different energy to the show—one which I think is very interesting." Shooting is well-underway for the Doctor's latest adventures and the second read-through featuring Jenna-Louise Coleman as the new companion took place earlier this week at the BBC's Roath Lock Studios.

Is this stylish new outfit a permanent costume change for our beloved Doctor? Should it be?

Doctor Who returns this fall.

A new clue about the series 7 premiere of Doctor Who has popped up, thanks to the schedule from the Media Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival. The festival will be showing the first episode of the series between August 23 and August 25, and its still-unannounced television air date will likely follow in September.

Meanwhile, showrunner Steven Moffat has been talking up new companion Jenna-Louise Coleman, who will make her debut in this year's Christmas Special. Apparently, she's not like all the other companions, despite fitting the "young, attractive female" mold.

Moffat:

I'll answer you in the show about how it's going to be different. But because it is going to be different. It's going to be a shock, I think. In terms of the companions all being 'the same'—that's not as phony or artistically crap a thing to say as it sounds. What is the base group of people who would run away with the Doctor? They're all going to be a bit mad. A bit dislocated. Not happy with where they are. Are they yearning for outer space? They're going to be people who feel like they can take on the Doctor, who's quite an intimidating sort of person. So, they're going to be feisty—they're going to be all those things. He sort of defines the people who are going to travel with him.

Moffat has previously said that the new companion's identity will be quite a shocker and "one of the biggest mysteries the Time Lord ever encounters," so there's definitely more to the story than "she's a bit mad."

Looks like we'll have to wait until Christmas to find out what it is, though.

The first photo of Jenna-Louise Coleman in character as the Doctor's new companion -- standing next to the TARDIS, no less! -- has hit the web courtesy of the BBC.

Showrunner Steven Moffat has said that the identity of Coleman's character will be "one of the biggest mysteries the Time Lord ever encounters," and all we know thus far is that she can talk circles around the Doctor.

That unusual sweater has to be some kind of clue, though, doesn't it?

Coleman will make her Doctor Who debut in this year's Christmas Special.

Matt Smith discussed the casting of The Doctor's new companion, Jenna-Louise Smith, for the first time in a recent BBC Radio Wales interview, calling it "very exciting news."

Although he met "a lot of wonderful actresses," during the casting process, Smith said, "I think Jenna responded to Steven [Moffat]'s writing in the most interesting way. We're very excited to welcome her to the Doctor Who family."

Details about Coleman's character are being kept under wraps until she makes her debut in this season's Doctor Who Christmas Special, but showrunner Steven Moffat has said she'll be the rare person who talk even faster than the Doctor.

"When we saw Matt and Jenna together, we knew we had our girl," Moffat said, "She's funny and clever and exactly mad enough to step on board the Tardis."
