Airborne Pirate Bay Servers of the Day
- -

A Pirate Bay outage yesterday wasn't the result of a raid, according to a blog post on the popular file-sharing site. The operators wrote that the downtime was caused a routine server upgrade to keep up with the growth of the Pirate Bay.

And speaking of servers, the Pirate Bay is now planning to host them in the air, using flying micro-drones and super-small computers like Raspberry Pi.

TPB wants to launch a network of "Low-Orbit Server Stations" that will sit "some kilometers" up in the air, forcing any government that wants to shut down The Pirate Bay to do so with planes -- "a real act of war," according to the pirates.

The drone network is just getting started, but the Pirate Bay believes that modern long-range radio transmitters will let them attain download speeds of 100Mbps per node from distances as great as 31 miles away.

Of course, how they're going to keep the drones and servers powered once they're airborne is another matter. Solar power, perhaps?
