Director David Cronenberg has been shocking and horrifying film audiences for decades, and his knack for the extreme seems to have influenced his son Brandon. Antiviral is the directorial debut for the younger Cronenberg, and the creepy trailer makes it clear the apple doesn't fall far from the family tree. From Blastr:

The film is set in a world where celebrity overload has hit critical mass, and people actually pay money to be infected by the viruses of the rich and famous, just to get a little closer to feeling the fame.

The new trailer for the remake of Masaki Kobayashi's 1964 Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai has landed:

From visionary auteur Takashi Miike comes the story of a mysterious samurai who arrives at the doorstep of his feudal lord, requesting an honorable death by ritual suicide in his courtyard. The lord threatens him with the brutal tale of Motome, a desperate young ronin who made a similar request with ulterior motives, only to meet a grisly end. Undaunted, the samurai begins to tell a story of his own, with an ending no one could see coming. With stunning cinematography and gripping performances, Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai is a thrilling exploration of revenge, honor, and individuality in the face of oppressive power.

Starring Koji Yakusho, Eita, and Hikari Mitsushima, the film is out July 20.

Resident Evil: Retribution Trailer of the Day

It's the brand-new 3D trailer for the fifth film in the Milla Jovovich-starring Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil: Retribution.

From TIME:

The star herself introduced the trailer with a webcast of a live Q&A with fans, during which she revealed a few tidbits about the movie. Jovovich spoke about her "horrific" zombie-themed nightmares and about meeting her husband, director Paul Anderson, on the set of the first Resident Evil film. She told the audience that they could expect a little humor in this iteration of the series, but just a little: "I smile a couple of times," she said. "That's as funny as it gets." Also, in a response that garnered groans from the live audience, Jovovich revealed that she wants to make a sixth Resident Evil movie…but that it would probably be the last, at least starring herself. And if this is a winding down, she wants to quit at the top: Although she would not say which of the films is her favorite—"It's like asking which of your children do you like best"—she said that Retribution is, in her opinion, the best one yet.

In theaters September 14.

Considering that Battleship is a real, actual movie that cost hundreds of millions of dollars to create, it's a travesty that this Tetris movie trailer by Warialasky isn't currently being turned into a feature-length film by a major studio.

Just saying.
