The British House of Lords may have denied a petition to pardon the late World War II codebreaker and computer science pioneer Alan Turing's 1952 conviction of "gross indecency" for being homosexual, but another Turing-related petition has now popped up online.
This time, it's an attempt to put the computer scientist on the British 10 pound note.
Britain has issued new "Series F" versions of the 20 and 50 pound notes over the past five years, and the tenner, which currently features Charles Darwin, is likely to be the next to be revised. Fans of Turing want to honor his accomplishments during the 100th anniversary year of his birth by putting his face on the note.
Even if the petition fails, Turing will still receive at least one official honor from the British government during his centernary. He's being included in the Royal Mail's "Britons of Distinction" commemorative stamp series.
