Dark Shadows Footage of the Day

The first clip from Tim Burton's big-screen reboot of '60s supernatural soap opera Dark Shadows is due to air on Ellen, and a preview for the episode contains an (extremely brief) first look at Johnny Depp in action as vampire Barnabas Collins.

As it turns out, a lot happens in these two seconds, including Collins emerging from a chained coffin where he's apparently been buried alive.

If you're hungry for every tidbit of Dark Shadows you can get, Bleeding Cool's Brendon Connelly has an impressively thorough shot-by-shot analysis of everything this snippet reveals about the movie's plot so far.

Dark Shadows, also starring Eva Green, Chloe Moretz, Jonny Lee Miller, Helena Bonham Carter, Michelle Pfeiffer and Jackie Earle Haley, opens May 11th.

Halo 4 Preview of the Day

Microsoft's 343 Studios has released a first look at the upcoming Halo 4, including gameplay footage of Master Chief's new armor, the return of the Battle Rifle, and a preview of two new multiplayer arenas.

This is 343's first post-Bungie Halo project, and they seem to be dedicated to giving players what they want.

The developers promise multiplayer levels that are designed specifically for competitive play, not ripped from the single-player campaign.

They also plan to explore the character of Master Chief at a level of depth that was previously only seen in Halo novels and comic books, and pit him against a dark and ancient new threat.

One major change is coming, though: the addition of upgradeable skills, a la Call of Duty. 343 hasn't yet released any specific details about Halo 4's perk system, but they have said it's not going to be exactly like CoD's.

Halo 4 is due out this winter.
