Doctor Who Commercial Controversy of the Day

A new Virgin Media commercial featuring David Tennant and a time machine has drawn a takedown request from the BBC for playing a little too much on Tennant's tenure on Doctor Who.

Although Tennant appears as himself and not as the Tenth Doctor, the ad does show the Doctor Who logo on his TiVo just before a time travel accident involving Virgin founder Richard Branson.

"We should ensure that the BBC brand is not used to endorse outside companies or organisations," the BBC said in a statement. "We can achieve this by ensuring commercial advertising, promotion and press releases by outside companies do not give the impression of BBC endorsement, and advertising does not 'pass off' BBC programmes."

Are they overreacting, or is this a blatant attempt to capitalize on the popularity of Doctor Who?
