Rescue of the Day: Helicopter Saves Cop from Floods in Texas, Refuses to Put Him Down

- -

A dramatic rescue in Sachse, Texas quickly took a turn for the funny on Friday, when a local cop was brought on a lengthy joyride over a farm.

In the video above from FOX 4 news, the unnamed officer is airlifted by a Department of Public Safety helicopter after his car gets stuck in the rising flood waters.

The news anchors covering the event watch as he attaches himself to the harness and soars off to safety.

But once they’ve reached dry land, they don’t let him down very quickly. Instead he is taken on a 4-minute long flight across some cow-filled pastures while the world watches and the anchors laugh.

“Where are they taking him?” asks one of them, to which the other replies “It’s kind of an odd sight, isn’t it?”

They joke that maybe the extended trip was punishment for ruining a perfectly good police car.

He was eventually lowered to the ground, and will likely rise up to viral video stardom.

“He’s happy to be out and safe,” another cop named Lt. Marty Cassidy told WFAA news. “He knows he’s not going to live this down.”

Awkward Moment of the Day: Jim Carrey Asks Where NBC is Hiding Brian Williams at ‘SNL 40′

- -

Matt Lauer probably wishes he could "misremember" this moment from the 40th Anniversary of SNL on Sunday.

During his the red carpet portion of the night, Lauer and co-host Savannah Guthrie were having a quick, lighthearted chat with Jim Carrey and Tina Fey about their memories from the show.

Then things got awkward.

"Can I ask you a question, you guys?" Carrey asked. "Where are you hiding Brian Williams? Where is he?"

Williams was temporarily suspended this past week from hosting the "NBC Nightly News" after he was caught lying about being shot down in a helicopter during the Iraq war… among other things.

"I just want to say something in his defense," he added, while Fey silently stood next to him. "If the helicopter in front of me gets hit, I'm taking the story."

But Carey wasn't the only one to bring up the elephant in the room.

Jerry Seinfeld mocked the news anchor in his bit later on in the night.

"You know there are so many things about 'Saturday Night Live' that people don't know," he said. "Like for example, I just found out that one of the original cast members in 1975 was Brian Williams. I didn't — I don't know if that's true. But I never heard that. It doesn't sound true. It might not be, it might not be."

Awkward Moment of the Day: Applause Track Exposed at 2015 SAG Awards

- -

Something strange happened at the 21st Screen Actors Guild Awards Sunday night.

Reese Witherspoon was in the middle of presenting the award for best actor in a supporting film role when a technical error caught her off guard.

A jarring audio clip of an apparent applause track started playing for a few seconds before it was quickly turned it off.

“What was that noise?” she asked. “It wasn’t me.”

Both Witherspoon and the confused audience laughed it off and moved right along. But what if that laughter was fake too?

Maybe everyone in the room was actually just a robot clone and everything about the SAG Awards was fabricated? We may never know.

Prank of the Day: Woman Tries to Claim ‘Money’ Found Under Her Chair

- -

Well, this is awkward.

A woman at a mall pretends to find $100 under the chair of another woman seated at a makeup counter.

Almost immediately she claims it to be her own, even pretending to check her purse for the missing bill.

At least she seems to laugh it off when the truth is revealed.

Awkward International Relations of the Day: Putin Drapes First Lady of China in Shawl

The A in APEC should stand for "awkward," because that's what this week's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Beijing was all about.

There was a very strange handshake between Japan's prime minister and the Chinese president. President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin greeted each other with some sort of elbow grab, and both leaders managed to offend the Chinese in their own ways, including Obama chewing gum upon entry to the event, and what has quickly become the most talked about moment: Putin randomly draping the first lady of China Peng Liyuan in a shawl.

She accepted the gift, but almost immediately removed it (around 40 seconds into the video). Sorry Vlad.

Within a few hours after the clip aired on live TV and was passed around on Twitter, censors attempted to remove all traces of the moment from both mainstream outlets and social media, according to Foreign Policy.

This wasn't Putin's first awkward "shawl moment." He also draped German Chancellor Merkel at the G20 Summit in 2013.

Beware world leaders: newly-single, bare-chested, horseback-riding Putin is officially on the prowl for your wives.
