A Chicago police officer shot and killed 19-year-old black man Quintonio Legrier, and 55-year-old black woman Bettie Jones this morning, while responding to a domestic disturbance call, officials said.

As officers were called to the scene this morning at 4:25AM they were informed Legrier was seen brandishing a baseball bat, and in an evolving confrontation with his father. The officers described the young Legrier as a "combative subject."

Legrier's mother told the press his son was dealing with mental issues and was prone to loud, but never violent behavior.

"My son has seven bullet wounds in him," Cooksey told WLS-TV. "That's too much." Police disclosed the shooting is under current investigation, and has been referred to Chicago's main police oversight agency.

You may remember seeing this video back in October of Fox News hosts poking fun at Star Wars fans who were losing their minds over The Force Awakens. One of the contributors, Katherine Timpf, made a joke that she wasn't familiar with the series because she was "too busy liking cool things and being attractive," and has been receiving death threats ever since.

It was a pretty rude thing to say, but it's certainly nothing anyone should receive death threats over, many of which looked like this:

Guardian978: I want to cut that blonde c***’s face off and stick it to a thermal detonator. What a network full of c***s.

dethklok21: Wow what a f***ing thunder c***. I hope this b**** gets hit by a f***ing car.

Even in the face of rabid death threats, Timpf refuses to apologize: "I’m sick of oversensitive mobs in our overly sensitive society bullying people into saying that they’re sorry over jokes — even if the subject of the joke is something as serious as Star Wars. So, for that reason, I will not apologize."

Timpf is still receiving a slew of salty messages over a month later, but she's taking it in stride.

Selfies have proven more dangerous than sharks in 2015.

Put the selfie stick down.

There have been a lot of global deaths this year connected with selfies. And with the death of a 66-year-old Japanese tourist trying to get a picture of himself at the Taj Mahal, it brings up a whole lot of questions about why we are risking our lives to get these snapshots.

The Guardian had compiled some of the stories behind these unfortunate deaths in trying to answer the larger question of 'why?'.

The incident now takes the death toll of officially recorded selfie-related deaths to 12. Previous incidents this year include a man who was gored to death taking a picture during a bull run in a Spanish town, and two men who accidentally blew themselves up in the Russian Ural mountains when posing with a live grenade. The picture was discovered saved to the camera roll on one of the men's phones.

Other selfie related deaths this year in Russia alone include a 21-year-old woman in Moscow who shot herself in the head while pointing a 9mm pistol at her temple, another who reportedly fell from a bridge and a teenager in Ryazan who died when coming into contact with live wires while snapping a portrait near to railway tracks.

They mention that 'hundreds' of injuries led Russian authorities to compile a nation-wide safety campaign to increase selfie awareness.

Mashable put their best accountants on it and found out that our vain exploration to take pictures of ourselves has caused more death than sharks.

They have a helpful chart to accompany the information.

What the hell is happening?

Why can't you people control yourselves?

Keep it together, world.

Aug. 11 marks the one year anniversary of Robin Williams' death.

There have already been tributes from news sites and ways to remember him, like which of his movies to stream.

One heart-felt remembrance leapt out from Sarah Michelle Gellar as she posted the following picture to her Instagram.

One of Williams' last roles was on the CBS television show The Crazy Ones. It was a single-camera sitcom that CBS cancelled after one season in May of last year.

Gellar played Williams' daughter on the show and she might have been one of the last to get to know the comedian during the final months of his life.

It's an incredible quote from Emerson and another reminder of one more great talent lost.

UPDATE: While people are trying to still make sense of Williams' suicide, his wife revealed that the beloved entertainer suffered from Parkinson's disease in the following statement:

Robin spent so much of his life helping others. Whether he was entertaining millions on stage, film or television, our troops on the frontlines, or comforting a sick child — Robin wanted us to laugh and to feel less afraid.

Since his passing, all of us who loved Robin have found some solace in the tremendous outpouring of affection and admiration for him from the millions of people whose lives he touched. His greatest legacy, besides his three children, is the joy and happiness he offered to others, particularly to those fighting personal battles.

Robin's sobriety was intact and he was brave as he struggled with his own battles of depression, anxiety as well as early stages of Parkinson's Disease, which he was not yet ready to share publicly.

It is our hope in the wake of Robin's tragic passing, that others will find the strength to seek the care and support they need to treat whatever battles they are facing so they may feel less afraid.

The Oscar winning actor and comedian unexpectedly passed away Monday morning at the age of 63. According to a press release issued by the Marin County Coroner's office, the Sheriff's office suspects the death to be "suicide due to asphyxia." Williams' publicist has released the following statement:

Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.

Robin Williams won an Oscar for his supporting role in Good Will Hunting and is also well known for his other roles in films such as Mrs. Doubtfire, Hook, and Jumanji.
