During the hottest month, on an equatorial paradise island, snow fell. Welcome to the end of days.

On the 'Big Island' of Hawai'i, the white stuff sure did come down July 11 and it made a winter wonderland of the Mauna Kea mountaintop.

Those big, imposing buildings there are the Mauna Kea Observatories, some of the largest astronomical facilities like it in the world. Wonder if they saw the snow coming...

Get a load of some of these pictures and maybe rethink that vacation.

Officials say a 16-year-old boy is lucky to be alive and unharmed after flying from California to Hawaii stowed away in a plane's wheel well, surviving cold temperatures at 38,000 feet and a lack of oxygen.

"Doesn't even remember the flight," FBI spokesman Tom Simon in Honolulu told The Associated Press on Sunday night. "It's amazing he survived that."

Simon said security footage from the San Jose airport verified that the boy from Santa Clara, Calif., hopped a fence to get to Hawaiian Airlines Flight 45 on Sunday morning. San Jose police say they will be reviewing whether charges are warranted against the boy.

Royal Gardens on Hawaii's Big Island was once home to 200 residents. On March 2nd, Thompson was the last the evacuate as a stream of lava slowly made its way toward his property.

"Little bit of regret, little bit of sorrow, little bit of relief,"
