Scrooge McDuck would be freaking out right now.

A 1,111 carat diamond has been discovered in Botswana by mining company Lucara. This is the second largest diamond ever discovered, only bested by the diamond used to make the British crown jewels.

It is as almost as big as a tennis ball.

"The significance of the recovery of a gem quality stone larger than 1,000 carats, the largest for more than a century and the continued recovery of high quality stones from the south lobe, cannot be overstated," Lucara CEO William Lamb said in a press release.

Rihanna is reportedly pretty pumped about this discovery.

Maybe the administration at this school should take some geography lessons of their own, and a chill pill.

A Kentucky teacher (also a registered nurse), who visited Kenya recently, has resigned from her job after parents at the school raised concerns about Ebola.

The school asked her to take a 21-day leave and produce a doctor's note before returning to work, but she walked out the door instead.

British chemist Anthony England, who has spent a great deal of time in Africa, created and tweeted the above map to highlight the areas in Africa where the Ebola outbreak exists and why our fears are unsubstantiated.

"Ignorance & misinformation is a big problem with Ebola. So a clueless Kentucky school causing the resignation of a teacher because she spent time in Kenya is just idiocy," England said.

Redditor ProfessorLaser makes a clever point about the ultimate cliche of African landscape photography:

1) Select a base image
2) Cut and paste in a picture of a giraffe
3) Darken base image by increasing saturation level
4) Darken the giraffe by increasing shadow level.

Uganda's Anti-Homosexuality Bill, a legislative proposal that was introduced in 2009 to prosecute the gay population across the country, will be put to vote before the end of this year, according to the Speaker of the Parliament Rebecca Kadaga. If passed, all same-sex relations will be categorized into two classes of offense: "aggravated homosexuality," in which an offender would receive the death penalty, or "the offense of homosexuality" in which an offender would receive life imprisonment.
