Hugh Hefner has penned quite the lovely defense of gay marriage in the September issue of Playboy. Here's an excerpt, but do yourself a favor and read his piece in its entirety.

Nearly 50 years ago in the pages of this magazine I warned that "when religion rather than reason dictates legislation, do not expect logic with your law."

Today, in every instance of sexual rights falling under attack, you'll find legislation forced into place by people who practice discrimination disguised as religious freedom. Their goal is to dehumanize everyone's sexuality and reduce us to using sex for the sole purpose of perpetuating our species.

To that end, they will criminalize your entire sex life.

Colin Powell jumped on the gay marriage bandwagon today with an endorsement during an interview with Wolf Blitzer:

I have no problem with it, and it was the Congress that imposed "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," though it was certainly my position and my recommendation to get us out of an even worse outcome that could have occurred, as you'll recall. But as I've thought about gay marriage, I know a lot of friends who are individually gay but are in partnerships with loved ones, and they are as stable a family as my family is, and they raise children. And so I don't see any reason not to say that they should be able to get married.

Same-sex weddings have no legal status in Japan, but that hasn't stopped Tokyo Disneyland from giving them the OK.

"I wrote 10 years ago that I looked forward to the day when gay and lesbian couples could hold hands and go to Tokyo Disneyland," said Taiga Ishikawa, Japan's first openly gay politician. "I'm very happy."

A full wedding ceremony in Cinderella's castle, with Mickey and Minnie included on the guest list, costs about $95,000. The park is now accepting applications.

Education Secretary Arne Duncan became the third member of President Obama's cabinet to endorse same-sex marriage today, joining Veep Joe Biden and Housing Secretary Shaun Donovan.

Duncan's endorsement, which comes on the heels of Biden's Sunday morning reveal, may force Obama to take a stronger public stand on the subject. The president has said that his views are "evolving," but he has not formally backed same-sex marriage.

Meanwhile, David Axelrod, a top Obama adviser, said this morning that the vice president's comments were "entirely consistent with the president's position":

Couples who are married, whether they are gay or heterosexual couples, are entitled to the very same rights or very same liberties.
