Apology of the Day: ‘Drunk Girl in Public’ Sorry for Hoax

While we have already learned that the "Drunk Girl in Public" video was a fake (is anything even real anymore?), now the actress hired to play said drunk girl is also speaking out.

Jennifer Box has released a video apologizing for the stunt Monday, which she says was originally pitched to her as a "lighthearted prank show."

She said she never would have participated if she had known the damaging outcome of the video. But isn't forever being remembered as "that drunk girl in public on Hollywood Boulevard" a good enough reason to turn it down?

The men in the video recently spoke up about the prank to Inside Edition and the mastermind behind the entire debacle, Stephen Zhang, has made the original video private, which had racked up millions of views since it aired.

Hoax of the Day: Reddit Post Warns of Deadly Outbreak in Arizona Town

Slender Man is not real, and Mammoth, Arizona is NOT ground zero to some grisly outbreak or zombie apocalypse.

But many people were fooled into thinking the latter was the case, this week, after a fictional post on Reddit was taken as fact.

The post, titled "WTF is going on in Pinal county, Arizona??" is part of a subreddit called "No Sleep," which contains shared horror stories (both real and fake) submitted by Reddit users. The page also notes that "suspension of disbelief is key here."

But with the country in panic about a potential Ebola outbreak in their neighborhood, it's not hard to believe that someone would take it seriously.

From the post:

Entire families were being found beaten to death all over Mammoth. Blood, bruises, nails and teeth missing, hair ripped out- all of them. I heard reports of anywhere from 14 to 55 dead bodies, depending on who you were talking to. In a state of completely shock, I did the only thing I could do really well on autopilot - I wrote an article about it for my blog.

People from all over the country started calling local businesses and the police chief to inquire about the horror they had been reading about online.

"It's all unfounded, the only thing we've taken in the last few days is loud music calls and barking dogs," he said.

So no real-life horror movie in Mammoth, but it does have a ghost town!

In a scene that sounds straight out of a video game, police officers and a helicopter descended on a Washington home Thursday, after receiving a 911 call that the family inside was being held hostage.

According to Komo News:

"The caller said he had an assault rifle and he had placed explosives in the yard and he was holding a family hostage," said Nathan Elledge, chief of police at the Sammamish Police Department. "He wanted $20,000 to release the family."

It turns out that the call was actually made by a computer, and the owner of the home is a top exec at Bungie, the game developer behind "Halo" and the recent hit "Destiny."

And on top of all that, investigators think the suspect "has ties to the video game community."

Let the conspiracy theories begin.

Internet Hoax of the Day: Japanese 'Moon Melon' is Only Wishful Thinking

The mysterious Moon Melon, with it's deep, vivid blue color, is said to come from Japan with a unique ability to change the taste of other foods with just a few bites. But like many things found on the internet that seem too weird to be true, the Moon Melon is just that. The exotic fruit has made quite a recent stir, thought the circulating image was reported to be a couple of digitally altered slices of plain ol' watermelon by The Daily Dot in July of 2012.

According to the International Business Times, many believe it's been circulating again because the widely followed Twitter account, Weird Hacks & Facts, posted a recent photo of the fantasy fruit. The post reads the following:

"This fruit grows in some parts of Japan, and is known for its vibrant blue color. What you probably don't know about this fruit is that it can switch flavors after you eat it. Everything sour will taste sweet, everything salty will taste bitter, and it gives water a strong orange-like taste."

This 7'4' troll is looking for a new roommate in the D.C. area and he's hoping that it will be you. Like all trolls, this fiscally responsible guy really cares about making sure rent is covered and other bills are paid (he especially cares about tolls). But don't let this payment punctuality overshadow his wild side. This kickball-loving, happy hour hopping wild wonder likes to have a good time.

About Me
I am 328 lbs, 7 feet tall (7' 4" if you count horn height), yellow/greenish eyes and a heart-warming smile. Happy hour? Free networking event? Kickball?... I'm there. I love being fiscally responsible and making sure all debts are paid, tolls collected, and budgets balanced.

Apartment Requirements
Space is no issue! I am great in tight spaces so am happy to claim an unused den or living room corner. I am also quite prepared to sleep under your bed or chill out in the closet. NOTE: I suffer from frequent, violent night terrors brought on by fiscal stress. So let's keep our budget in check when we're bunking up, OK? We will need to convene weekly budget meetings to discuss utility bills -- keeping costs down keeps spirits up!

Outstanding Questions
What is our toll rate for pedestrians walking by outside? Is it strictly enforced or a catch-and-release program? Do you have a dedicated sheep/goat herder, or do you just hire freelancers?
