J.K. Rowling writes that Ilvermorny was a magical school of witchcraft and wizardry, founded by a pureblood Irish wizard named Isolt Sayre in the 17th century. Ilvermorny sat atop the highest peak of Mount Greylock enshrouded by powerful concealment enchantments.

Sayre was a descendant of Salazar Slytherin and the renowned Irish witch Morrigan. Sayre lived with her parents in a small Irish town till the day her mother's estranged sister Gormlaith Gaunt (pureblood zealot) murdered Sayre's parents and kidnapped her away to Hag's Glen to stop her from marrying a muggle.

A decade later, following imprisonment and continued attempts at indoctrinating Sayre, she stole her aunt's wand, and managed an escape.

Sayre went on to pose as a Muggle boy, sailing to the 'New World', where she came across a wealth of magical creatures and fellow wizards that'd ultimately help her create Ilvermorny.

The four Ilvermorny houses are named after magical creatures:

  • Horned Serpent – a ‘great horned river serpent with a jewel set into its forehead’
  • Pukwudgie – ‘a short, grey-faced, large-eared creature’
  • Thunderbird – a creature that ‘can create storms as it flies’
  • Wampus – ‘a magical, panther-like creature that is fast, strong and almost impossible to kill’

J.K. Rowling, in her never ending quest to become everyones "cool aunt" on Twitter, has offered up some inspiration in the form of rejection letters.

The pictured letters are both tiny and a little blurry but if you put on your reading glasses you might see that one is a polite and short dismissal and the other is apologetic and offers some helpful tips after saying "No, thank you."

This was part of a discussion where Rowling also answered questions and, as usual, offered a response to a fan that was both supportive and wise.

See, just like everyone else, J.K. Rowling got rejected a few times before becoming an international sensation. Take away her fame and she still gets rejected every now and then.

Author J.K. Rowling is known for her scathing quips toward people who say things that are sexist, racist, homophobic or generally awful. Also she wrote the very, very famous Harry Potter Series.

This time she tweeted back to a Donald Trump spokeswoman who made a zenophobic remark regarding Americans born outside the U.S. who are (or would like to be) leaders of the country.

Ouch, Katrina Pierson. You need a freezing spell for that burn?

After yesterday's casting news of a black Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, fans took to Twitter and began riffing on other characters in the series with different nationalities. JK Rowling even joined in to express her fondness for a few with praise and retweets.

Someday, we should probably have an intervention with J.K. Rowling over how much time she spends on Twitter. There are other things she could be doing than engaging with the Harry Potter hordes. Today isn't that day.

Today is the day in which she corrects our mispronunciation of He Who Must Not Be Named.

Since 'mort' (with a silent 'T') is the French word for 'death', that's probably why it's supposed to be pronounced that. But who knows. I'm sure Rowling will go into greater Twitter detail in the coming weeks and months.

Everyone probably started calling him 'You Know Who' because no one could pronounce his damn name.

If you need another reminder that time's flat circle will eventually roll over and crush you, it might as well be in the form of Harry Potter news.

Today marks the 15th anniversary of the public's introduction to Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint as the three precocious, magical children who found adventure, friendship and eventually love in the halls of Hogwarts.

Seriously, 15 years.

You probably have memories of this, don't you? Meaning you are even older than old.

Here's part of the original press release that preceded the filming of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone:

ATTENTION ALL MUGGLES! Director Chris Columbus and producer David Heyman have discovered their Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger from the thousands of children who cast their names into the hat to play the roles. Young actor Daniel Radcliffe will be the film's Harry, with newcomers Rupert Grint and Emma Watson taking on the roles of Ron and Hermione, Harry's best friends at Hogwarts, in Warner Bros. Pictures' upcoming adaptation of the first in the best-selling series of Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling.

The hashtag #15yearsofDanEmmaRupert has sprung up around the anniversary with people sharing their memories and their appreciation for the wizarding trio.

By the by, this is what they look like now:

And you're probably older. Much older.

Sorry about the reminder that death is hurtling towards you at lightning speed.
