Much of the country was experiencing biting cold on Monday, but the mayor of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin was dealing with a biting groundhog.

Jimmy was having none of this “Groundhog Day” tomfoolery, and he took things into his own hands (or teeth for that matter).

During the ceremony on Monday to find out if we were going to get 6 more weeks or Winter, Mayor Jonathan Freund leaned in close to hear what the little guy had to say.

Big mistake.

Freund apparently also made a mistake with the prediction, announcing that there would be an early Spring while one of Jimmy’s caretakers argued that this had been misinterpreted.

And the city was forced to issue a statement on the whole debacle:

While tradition holds that only the mayor can translate Jimmy’s prediction and that a clear sky generally means Jimmy sees his shadow and that winter will go on for six more weeks, the mayor’s translation this morning was clearly for an early spring. The break with tradition is unusual, but not unprecedented.

I bet the mayor wishes this was one day he could do all over again.

Meanwhile in New Zealand… it’s “silly season,” the summer months when people are doing a lot of drinking and celebrating.

Apparently they are also doing some pretty stupid stuff.

The NZ Herald recently spoke with a patient flow co-ordinator at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland, and learned about all the dumb accidents they have been seeing lately.

For instance, a man was mowing his lawn when the blades got stuck on sticks and grass. He tried to remove the debris with his hand, and the blade shattered his bones. (He didn’t lose his fingers.)

Among other incidents they have seen are people sticking their tongues in blenders, smashing windows to break into their own homes, chopping their fingers when trying to cut frozen hamburger patties, and a number of chainsaw-related accidents.

“Summer is a time where we get a lot of sporting injuries, but we’ve also got lots of injuries that happen because people don’t engage their minds,” the hospital said.

This kid really earned the "ball boy" title this week at the Australian Open, even if his own set may not be functioning properly anymore.
,br/> Spain's Feliciano Lopez whacked him right in the nuts with a 121mph serve that had poor boy keeling over in pain.

He was escorted off the court but returned to his duties a few minutes later.

Both Bieber fans and haters (but mostly haters) will enjoy this video that has emerged of the boy pop star.

While wearing leather pants and a man dress, the Biebs attempted a simple skateboarding trick outside Madison Square Garden this week.

But he failed miserably, crashing into the cement as people watched from the sidewalk before eventually landing it.

Last week he also showed off a new private jet that suggested he got for Christmas, which turned out to be a big lie.

So you can find some sort of solace in that news as well.
