Christopher Schaeffer, a Pastafarian minister, was recently sworn into the Pomfret, N.Y. Town Council wearing a colander on his head. Schaeffer is a member of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster which was founded by an atheist in 2005. The symbol of the church is the spaghetti strainer.
Bobby Henderson, the founder of the church, blogged that Scchaeffer's swear-in "may be the first openly Pastafarian sworn into office."
As if the president's selfies weren't enough, it became very apparent to those in the international sign language community that this interpreter here was basically just making things up on the fly and foregoing that whole "interpreting" (or "making sense") thing entirely.
The Huffington Post brings this painfully awkward supercut of politicians talking about "rap music" and a few even reciting the lyrics. Some of the highlights include Utah Senator Orrin Hatch reading the lyrics from "Hits From the Bong" by Cypress Hill, Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman breaking down the semantics of "slapping a h*" and Florida Representative Dean Cannon quoting the song "99 Problems" by Jay-Z.
