Clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch came under fire yesterday after a screenshot showing "N*er Brown Pants" for sale on a supposed A&F outlet website made the rounds of the web.

Although the company has certainly caused its share of controversy in the past, counterfeiters appear to be at fault for this latest incident. The website featuring the racist slur was a phony, reportedly registered to a Hong Kong email address.

"We do not condone racist language. This is a counterfeit website and we have initiated legal proceedings to shut it down," an Abercrombie spokesperson told TMZ.

The fake site, abercrombie-and-fitchoutlet.com, now appears to be offline.

Gawker notes that the counterfeiters' use of the n-word was likely due to shoddy Chinese-to-English translation software, which has been slipping the slur onto product labels since at least 2007.
