Ghost Crabs Use Teeth In Their Stomachs To Growl

In science news this week: ghost crabs growl. Yep. Weird, right? Although they aren't the most formidable of creatures (although I'm sure many people would disagree with me there), ghost crabs have the bonus of having decent claws AND a (cute) growl. If I were 2 inches tall, I would be terrified.

This seems like a normal ocean exploration video until about halfway through when they get to the unexpected discovery of thousands of crabs swarming together in murky water like a spooky horde of zombies.

The scientist in the video was unable to explain why the crabs were doing what they were doing but he does mention that this behavior has been seen before in insects.

Porsche Indrisie was watching a little crab just chill out on the rocks in Yallingup, Australia when terror struck.

An octopus shot out of the water and quickly dragged the creature beneath the surface.

Indrisie captured the entire moment on video, and you can hear her screams of horror as she witnessed the attack.

Who knew these 8-legged beasts could move so fast? Even sharks are no match for them.

Be afraid, be very afraid.

In a clever spin on Earth Day, o.b. tampons and LBi teamed up to convince a creepy crustacean to spill his plans for seaside domination.

[thanks, elisabeth!]
