Mittens just can't catch a break -- the GOP candidate joked while campaigning in Michigan early this morning that "no one had ever asked to see my birth certificate," and the Twitterverse promptly sprang into action.

Mitt Romney, fresh off his visit with spaceship farmers, took time Saturday morning to announce Paul Ryan as his running mate and potential Vice President. Ryan, the 42-year-old U.S. Rep. from Wisconsin, is the young, fresh face of the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, and is the Chairman of the House Budget Committee.

Tapping Ryan as vice president is considered a risky, outside-the-box move for Romney, whose lagging campaign couldn't afford a "safe" sidekick -- although anything looks more natural than this. Rumors had recently swirled over Ohio Sen. Rob Portman or former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty as likely running mates.

Ryan's introduction didn't go off without a hitch as Romney pulled a GWB, presenting the congressman as the next "President of the United States." He quickly reassured the crowd with a correction, before Ryan addressed the thousands assembled at the USS Wisconsin in Norfolk, Virginia.

Mitt Romney's campaign is working hard to increase the candidate's Twitter presence, but on any given day, the most heavily retweeted mentions of @MittRomney come not from the candidate, but from comedian Rob Delaney.

Delaney claims no political affilliation, but his frequent abuse of Romney is nonetheless revealing:

Romney fascinates me endlessly. He's such an attractive target comedically because more than any other candidate in my lifetime, he just wants to be president. That's it! He longs for it. Feels it's his birthright. I can imagine him getting elected and just saying, "Well, that's that then!" and staring out a window. To the extent I can wield Twitter influence, I prefer to function like a much cleaner, more honest super PAC.

Lowell Turpin had suspected his live-in girlfriend of an affair, but he became particularly suspicious when he noticed a picture of a man he didn't recognize on her Facebook page.

He "angrily demanded to know who the male was," according to an Anderson County (Tennessee) Sheriff's Department incident report, then jerked her laptop away from her, smashed it into the wall, and punched her in the face.

The mystery man in question? Mitt Romney.

Turpin has been charged with domestic assault and is being held in Anderson County Jail.

Today marks the launch of a new campaign -- "Mitt Gets Worse," a play on the "It Gets Better" project -- that accuses GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney of pushing an "extreme anti-LGBT agenda."

From the Boston Globe:

Launched Wednesday by the Courage Campaign Super PAC and American Bridge 21st Century, [the campaign] is a compilation of video testimonies from people who describe Romney as insensitive and willing to put his political ambitions ahead of equality. The campaign's website also features video of Romney discussing LGBT rights as far back as 1994, when he ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Senate. If elected president, the Super PACs suggest, Romney would roll back protections for LGBT citizens -- perhaps pushing for a federal ban on gay marriage, which he supports; defending the Defense of Marriage Act in court, which the Justice Department has ceased to do under Obama; and undermining the repeal of the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.

Yesterday, Mitt Romney spoke at the Christian college, Liberty University, where he tried breaking through his Mormon image to become the Evangelical Christian candidate to beat. Pandering to the crowd, he made a couple interesting statements about gay marriage and the state of Christian values in America. To wit:

Marriage is a relationship between one man and one woman.

But in the same speech, Romney also said:

Whether the cause is justice for the persecuted, compassion for the needy and the sick, or mercy for the child waiting to be born, there is no greater force for good in the nation than Christian conscience in action.

Of course the "persecuted" in question, sadly, does not include same-sex couples who were denied legal unions in North Carolina, but rather the downtrodden wealthy white males who bully and assault gay teens.
