ICYMI, Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier made a big mistake on the red carpet at a Raptors charity event to honor Nelson Mandela last weekend.

The mistake being that he didn't know who Nelson Mandela was.

Here's his cringeworthy answer:

"He's one of the most known athletes in the world. A lot of impact in any kind of sport that he did, and even playing hockey, everyone knows him, right? From being the type of person that he was off the ice and on the ice. It's unfortunate that he passed a year ago, but, he changed a lot while he was with us, and he's a tremendous guy."

Here Bernier, let me Google that for you. Of course, that might have helped to know beforehand to avoid the embarrassment.

Bernier apologized soon after the event.

"I'm embarrassed," said Bernier. "I didn't mean to offend him, his legacy. I got flustered with the red carpet and I was nervous. I think everyone makes mistakes and that was me that night."

Mind the gap.

Professional skier Cody Townsend won "Line of the Year" at the 2014 Powder Awards with this death defying attempt in Alaska, which he describes as "the scariest thing I've ever done."

The clip is featured in the new ski film from Red Bull and MSP Films, "Days of My Youth."

Filmed over two years using state of the art techniques and technologies, this movie offers a unique glimpse into the journey of self-discovery that every skier experiences.

Ray Kaunisto of the Kalamazoo Wings had some fun in a recent post-game interview, slipping in a little reference to the 2001 comedy "Super Troopers."

He managed to get about 7 "meows" in his answers before the interview ended.

Maybe he's just excited for the sequel to come out, which Steve Lemme says will be partially funded with the help of Kickstarter with filming to begin sometime in 2015.

As a rugby player, Edward Baker was used to getting pummeled to the ground and knocked around in every which way imaginable.

He broke his nose over and over again and eventually lost his ability to pick up a scent.

But then this happened.

During a recent match, he got kicked in the face, and the accident allowed him to smell again for the first time in 20 years.

"I had an operation last year where they drilled into my nose to make me breathe better through it, but it didn't work." he said. "So where the surgeons failed this bloke's size 12 boot worked."

And just in time too.

Baker recognized the smell of gas near a school a few days later, and reported the leak to authorities, preventing a potential disaster.

Here's Elsa like you've never seen her before: with a five o' clock shadow.

The Boston Bruins chose a "Frozen" theme this year in their annual Halloween visit to the Boston Children's Hospital, and the photos will melt your cold, cold heart.

Dougie Hamilton and Matt Fraser arrived as Elsa and her sister Anna, with the rest of the players going as Kristoff, Sven, Hans and Olaf the snowman.

The guys even attempted to sing their own version of "Let It Go," according to Sports Illustrated.
