"My first song that I remember falling love with was a Whitney Houston song: 'I Will Always Love You'," she told the Associated Press. "It was really inspiring and it made me develop a passion for music, so really, she's partly responsible for me being here in this industry."
Rumors of a biopic based on Houston's life circulated after her tragic death in February, often with Rihanna's name attached. Although it was only talk, the "What's My Name?" singer said she would like to take on the role.
"That would be something that I would have to give my entire life to do, because I would really want to pull it off," said Rihanna. "That's a huge, huge role and whoever does it has to do a good job."
This morning The Today Show featured a clip from Sparkle, the last film Whitney Houston worked on before her tragic death.
Sparkle is a remake of the original 1976 film, which follows the story of Sister & The Sisters, a girl group made up of three siblings.
Houston stars as the mother of the Williams sisters, and also served as executive producer of the film.

"Everyone is innocent until proven guilty and Mr. Brown was not driving erratically," his lawyer Tiffany Feder told E! News. "He was speaking on his cellphone. Mr. Brown has not been convicted of anything associated with this incident."
Earlier this week, he was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol for talking on his phone when officers noticed signs of intoxication.
The "My Prerogative" singer failed a field sobriety test and was booked at the Van Nuys County Jail.
"Mr. Brown is taking this matter seriously and an investigation is underway," said Feder. "The legal process shall run its course."
The former New Edition member has been in the news since last month, when his ex-wife Whitney Houston died in her Beverly Hills hotel room.

Bobby Brown was arrested today on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The "My Prerogative" singer was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol for talking on his cell phone when officers noticed signs of inebriation.
He was asked to participate in a field sobriety test, and did not perform as instructed. Gossip Cop also reports that he blew a 0.12 during a breathalyzer test.
Brown was arrested and booked at the Van Nuys County Jail. TMZ reports that he was bailed out around 2:30 this afternoon.
In 1996, the former New Edition member was convicted of a DUI in Georgia.
Last month, Houston was found dead in her bath tub at the Beverly Hilton, just prior to the Grammy Awards. Many medications, such as Xanax, were found in her room.
Authorities found no evidence of cocaine in her hotel room, but it was found in her system.
The police do not suspect foul play, however alleged family members have called the Coroner's Office, believing Houston may have been murdered.
