Echolocation of the Day: Scientists Have Created an Image of What a Dolphin's Echolocation Looks Like

For the first time ever, scientists have created an image of what echolocation looks like to a dolphin. Using a tool called a Cymascope, the scientists recorded the vibrations bouncing back from the dolphin's echolocation sounds and created two-dimensional images which they compiled into a 3D image with a computer. 

This blobby man is what they got from a human underwater. Actually the image on the left below is what they got. 



The blob-man is an enhanced image of the original data collected. Good thing dolphins can open their eyes underwater.

In a story that can be adapted for another Flipper sequel or reboot, rescuers are trying to save a dolphin that's stranded in wetlands along the California coast. It's difficult to tell whether the dolphin just doesn't know how to get back to the open waters of the ocean, or if it's trying get a plum role in an episode of How I Met Your Mother.
