STD  aka Sexually Transmitted Diseases, are infections that can be spread by various sexual activities.

Guy Asks Internet If He's Wrong For Outing Girl's STD On Facebook After She Didn't Disclose It To Him

This guy decided to out a girl he hooked up with after he found out she had herpes, after not disclosing it to him when they originally hooked up. Apparently he posted anonymously on their University's Facebook page, and just wanted to warn other people, because of his experience with her deceiving him. From there he proceeded to face quite a bit of backlash. Was he in fact the asshole for outing her, or did he do the right thing? Or, are they both just kind of crappy people in this equation?

AITA for outing girl online as having STD

zika virus STD Oh Good, The Terrifying Mosquito-Transmitted Zika Virus Is Now an STD

The Zika virus is responsible for what the World Health Organization calls a global health crisis. The disease is spread by mosquito bites and can cause terrible birth defects like microencephaly when pregnant women are infected. It's also been linked to the development of Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare condition that causes the immune system to attack nerves.

Until now it has only been a problem transmitted by mosquitos in South American countries. Now a person in the United States has caught the Zika virus on home turf. The good news is, we're probably not flooded with mosquitos that carry the virus (yet), the bad news is that it was sexually transmitted. According to NBC DFW:

The first person in Dallas County has been infected with the Zika virus without traveling outside the U.S., becoming the first person to acquire the virus in the country, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The patient was infected through sexual contact, not through a mosquito bite, according to county health officials.

Nature is getty scary, guys, and who better to put that into words than Twitter.

Study of The Day: STD Rates Are The Highest They've Been in a Long Time

Use a condom, you gross people.

Because basically everyone has an STD now thanks to Tinder.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a new report that shows cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis are increasing for the first time since 2006.

And more than 1.4 million cases of chlamydia were reported last year — the highest number of cases of any disease ever reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Just under 20,000 cases of syphilis were reported in 2014, the highest rate since 1994 and a 15 percent increase over 2013, the CDC said. The CDC found 458 cases of syphilis in newborn babies — a startling 27.5 percent increase over 2013.

And more than 350,000 cases of gonorrhea were reported, up 5 percent from 2013.

Why has there been such an increase? Lack of education/resources and...Tinder. People are having more sexual partners thanks to technology, and in turn getting more STDs.

You know what piece of simple technology could stop most of this? A condom.

Go buy some.

Infection of The Day: The World Health Organizations is Pretty Sure You Have Herpes

You probably, maybe, definitely have herpes. And there's nothing you can do about it.

According to a report from the World Health Organization, about 67 percent of the world's population, or 3.7 billion people under the age of 50, have herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1).

That's the mouth kind of herpes. You know, the one that gives you a cold sore.

Not so fast though! HSV-1 can also spread to the genitals.

"The new estimates highlight, however, that HSV-1 is also an important cause of genital herpes. Some 140 million people aged 15-49 years are infected with genital HSV-1 infection, primarily in the Americas, Europe and Western Pacific. Fewer people in high-income countries are becoming infected with HSV-1 as children, likely due to better hygiene and living conditions, and are instead at risk of contracting it genitally through oral sex after they become sexually active."

In January, estimates showed that 417 million people aged 15-49 years have HSV-2, which causes genital herpes.

So adding those numbers together...over half a billion people have some form of herpes.

And that wasn't the only sad fact the study found:

- 77% of respondents could not identify what SEO means. SEO stands for "Search-Engine Optimization"
- 27% identified "gigabyte" as an insect commonly found in South America. A gigabyte is a measurement unit for the storage capacity of an electronic device.
- 42% said they believed a "motherboard" was "the deck of a cruise ship." A motherboard is usually a circuit board that holds many of the key components of a computer.
- 23% thought an "MP3" was a "Star Wars" robot. It is actually an audio file. - 18% identified "Blu-ray" as a marine animal. It is a disc format typically used to store high-definition videos.
- 15% said they believed "software" is comfortable clothing. Software is a general term for computer programs.
- 12% said "USB" is the acronym for a European country. In fact, USB is a type of connector.

We smrt tho. Wee promiss.
