Eleven Surreal Photos of The 2019 Hunter's Moon

If you looked up during the past two nights, you might have noticed that the moon was bigger and brighter than usual. That's because this full moon was not just any old moon: we just witnessed a Hunter's Moon. This is one of the Native American full moon names that occur each month of the year, signalling a change in season.

These 12 full moons are named for the activity or people they target. Therefore, the Hunter's Moon occurs around this time that hunters should traditionally begin to hunt game in preparation for winter. Since farmers would have recently harvested their crops during the Harvest Moon that takes place in September, the clear fields and bright moon would serve for perfect hunting conditions.

Today, most people don't depend on the moon's stages to survive, but we can appreciate it's signaling of a change in the season, and if you're into it, the astrological meaning of the skies. Or you can just appreciate the beauty of the moon. If you didn't get a chance to see this years Hunter's Moon, check out these otherworldly photos that were taken from all over the world.

Stunning Photos of the Harvest Moon on Friday 13th

On Friday 13th September 2019, the world witnessed a Harvest Moon. The moon goes by many different names, depending on it's size, position in the sky, and timing. The Harvest Moon doesn't actually have a constant date it falls on - rather, it is the full moon that occurs closest to the autumn equinox (when the Earth's equator is almost directly in line with the sun). The Harvest Moon got it's name by being particularly bright and rising early. In the past, this allowed farmers to extend their time in the fields so they could continue to harvest their summer crops by the light of the moon.

If you missed seeing this Harvest Moon, don't worry. We gathered the best photos of it so you can experience the magic of the Harvest Moon in broad daylight. Enjoy these photos (perhaps while listening to Neil Young's song Harvest Moon) and if you missed this Harvest Moon, there will be plenty more!

Faith in humanity = restored.

Carl Bates, an Illinois farmer with terminal cancer, had over 450 acres of corn to harvest—but he wasn't sure if he would be able to do all the work given his medical condition.

Enter 40 other farmers from the surrounding community, eager to help out.

The volunteers were able to complete the work record time, using 10 combines to clear the field in about 10 hours.

Bates is currently at home under hospice care, but his cousin Jason Bates, told Fox 59 that this act of kindness has helped take some stress of the family.

"(Carl Bates' family) has so much going on right now, with medical bills and the condition he's in," said Dan. "This is one less thing they have to worry about. If they need to sell (the corn) to pay bills, it's done. They can now worry about Carl and take care of him."
