By Grabthar's Hammer what a devastating loss. Esteemed British Actor Alan Rickman has passed away at 69 after a battle with cancer.

Rickman was known by many for his exceptional portrayal of the complex and conflicted villain Severus Snape in the films adapted from J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books.

But real-talk the strapping lad could make most anything epic.

From his acclaimed role as criminal mastermind Hans Gruber in Die Hard:

To that time when director, Kevin Smith, recognized he'd happened upon a British stud who had a voice deeper and richer than a Ghirardelli 98% Dark Chocolate bar. Yeah the voice of a god. Literally:

To what was one of his arguably best roles as Colonel Brandon in Ang Lee's 'Sense and Sensibility':

Throughout his career Rickman continually demonstrated an awe-inspiring range, while at the same time establishing himself as something of a legendary 'bad guy.' Let's get real though, his bit in Galaxy Quest — the epic sci-fi romp — kind of takes the cake.

RIP Alan Rickman, you'll be fiercely missed.

The most recent exciting addition to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London calendar is a three course Valentine's Day meal plated and served within Hogwarts Great Hall, which is also set to include a hearty supply of Butterbeer, a tour of the studio, and a free wand.

Perhaps the biggest catch here is this meal's about to wipe out your account at Gringotts Wizarding Bank.

But hey, you could always hit up Harry Potter for a friendly loan, right?

No really though, the whole show costs £247.50 ($357) per person, or £495 ($714) for two people.

A group of college students had the real-life Professor Snape.

His name was Henry Lloyd Snape, and while he didn't wield a wand—far as we know— fawn after Lily Potter, or make a mad magical potion; he did claim his expertise in the field of Chemistry. So, he was pretty much the Half Blood Prince. Check him out, pictured in the center, below.

In The Irish Times, the real-life Professor Snape is described as uncannily lenient towards a dark but charismatic disposition, much like the demeanor of Severus as played by Alan Rickman in the 'Harry Potter' flicks.

What gets the bit between the teeth on the connection between Henry Lloyd and JK's Severus Snape, is Rodger's discovery of a recent lecture that was titled 'The Philosopher of Stone.' This immediately brings to mind the title of the first 'Harry Potter' book, 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.'

As a final resounding note we'll add that Henry Lloyd taught at Aberystwyth University, an old college building that had Gothic spires and turrets eerily similar to Hogwarts.

After yesterday's casting news of a black Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, fans took to Twitter and began riffing on other characters in the series with different nationalities. JK Rowling even joined in to express her fondness for a few with praise and retweets.

Somebody draw these, stat!

Go argue with Voldemort, eat a Golden Snitch or spit in Snape's coffee Harry Potter, because Swaziland-born actress Noma Dumezweni's is the new chosen one, and she's shattering barriers. Dumezweni's been chosen to play Hermione Granger in the up and coming stage play, "Harry Potter and The Cursed Child."

Harry Potter and The Cursed Child is listed as the eighth installment, and covers events that transpire shortly after we all got goosebumps watching Harry and Ginny's kids board the Hogwarts Express with the original theme playing on in the background. All the nostalgia feels though.

Much like rising star Michael B. Jordan who played Johnny Storm in the recent, catastrophic, anything but Fantastic Four rendition, Dumezweni's reprised role as Hermione will continue to challenge film audiences that expect white as the default ethnicity.

What's more is, JK Rowling just expressed her strong nod of approval.

Check out Jamie Parker, Noma Dumezweni, and Paul Thornley as Harry, Hermione, and Ron above. It's great to have the band back together for another adventure. Any guesses on who might play our favorite barrel-chested, black bearded, mountain of a man Hagrid?

Erase some of the hate on the internet with the browser extension Trump2Voldemort. All mention of Trump is replaced with references to Voldemort, the evil antagonist of the Harry Potter series.

Not surprisingly, most of Trump's statments seem to make more sense when attributed to one of Voldemort's many names.

Sit back and watch this magical, wonderful thing.

Fans Joan Kamberaj and Peter Heacock animated this beautiful short film, which shows Hogwarts being built out of folded paper from The Prisoner of Azkaban.

It's a loving tribute that, according to the description, took them a great deal of work.

We are huge fans JK Rowling. So much so, that we built Hogwarts from the pages of "Prisoner of Azkaban". Frame by frame, and over one month of work, we are proud to share our first short film with all of you.

Harry Potter fans can't really give the shirts off their backs to help a house elf, but they're getting close.

Dobby the house elf from the wizarding series of books has his own display in the Warner Bros. Studio tour, featuring him encased in glass, with his eyes closed for some reason.

Well intrepid, altruistic people saw a chance to free the little guy.

Vulture noticed the pictures and wrote about the impromptu jail break

Friends of the house elf have festooned one of his exhibit cases with their socks, a nod to both Dobby's HP story line, as well as the fact that house elves are granted independence if they are given an item of clothing.

J.K. Rowling retweeted the initial mention, because she has a Twitter problem, and the idea began to spread.

So, basically, if you go on the Warner Bros. Studio tour and it smells bad, you know why.

You think you've seen and heard it all, Harry Potter fan. Well, you are wrong.

You must check out this Indian version of some of the most notable songs from the Harry Potter movies. It's really something striking that makes the whole of John Williams' themes seem even more magical.

According to the video's description:

This Indian fusion covers five beautiful scores from the Harry Potter Movie Series-

A Window To The Past : Harry Potter and the Prisoners of Askaban,Harry Potter Main Theme, Hedwig's Theme : Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Face of Voldemort : Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, The Epilogue - Leaving Hogwarts : Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

The Indian Jam Project is a collaborative platform where different musicians come together to play Indian Adaptations of Western TV Show Theme Songs/ Movie Scores. The adaptations are arranged and composed by Tushar Lall (Founder), and are performed together with some insanely talented set of musicians.

Someday, we should probably have an intervention with J.K. Rowling over how much time she spends on Twitter. There are other things she could be doing than engaging with the Harry Potter hordes. Today isn't that day.

Today is the day in which she corrects our mispronunciation of He Who Must Not Be Named.

Since 'mort' (with a silent 'T') is the French word for 'death', that's probably why it's supposed to be pronounced that. But who knows. I'm sure Rowling will go into greater Twitter detail in the coming weeks and months.

Everyone probably started calling him 'You Know Who' because no one could pronounce his damn name.

If you need another reminder that time's flat circle will eventually roll over and crush you, it might as well be in the form of Harry Potter news.

Today marks the 15th anniversary of the public's introduction to Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint as the three precocious, magical children who found adventure, friendship and eventually love in the halls of Hogwarts.

Seriously, 15 years.

You probably have memories of this, don't you? Meaning you are even older than old.

Here's part of the original press release that preceded the filming of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone:

ATTENTION ALL MUGGLES! Director Chris Columbus and producer David Heyman have discovered their Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger from the thousands of children who cast their names into the hat to play the roles. Young actor Daniel Radcliffe will be the film's Harry, with newcomers Rupert Grint and Emma Watson taking on the roles of Ron and Hermione, Harry's best friends at Hogwarts, in Warner Bros. Pictures' upcoming adaptation of the first in the best-selling series of Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling.

The hashtag #15yearsofDanEmmaRupert has sprung up around the anniversary with people sharing their memories and their appreciation for the wizarding trio.

By the by, this is what they look like now:

And you're probably older. Much older.

Sorry about the reminder that death is hurtling towards you at lightning speed.

For the third time, Simon Pegg flexes his nerd muscles to appear on The Tonight Show as a sloppy drunk Ron Weasley.

The schtick is the same as it ever was: poor Ron Weasley has turned to drink after the world only cares about the exploits of the Boy Who Lived.

His heart's at least in the right place as he shows up on late night to wish his best friends a happy 35th birthday.

Things even have taken a turn for the worse as it appears Hermione left the penniless ginger (again) for someone, probably a Slytherin, else.

Jimmy Fallon tries to both cheer up the soused wizard and protect his talk show audience from Weasley's desire to show his junk.

Humor ensues.

The last time Drunk Ron Weasley appeared on The Tonight Show, it went just about as well.

“Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling revealed that Albus Dumbledore was gay back in 2007 at Carnegie Hall, but apparently some fans still can’t seem to wrap their heads around it.

On Twitter Tuesday, a girl named Ana Kocovic reached out to Rowling and asked about the decision to make the Hogwarts headmaster a homosexual.

“Thank you so much for writing Harry Potter,” Kocovic wrote. “I wonder why you said that Dumbledore is a gay because I can’t see him in that way.”

And just like magic, Rowling responded with the most perfect tweet ever.

The girl ended up thanking her and apparently deleting all of her tweets. Her profile now says her name is Gellert Grindelwald, whom Rowling previously said was Dumbledore’s love interest.

“Amazing answer,” she replied. “Yes you are absolutely right. Such an inspiration!”

Are you a wizard but stuck practicing spells alone in your parent's basement?

Go to Poland!

About 200 Harry Potter fans from 11 different countries met up this past November in a massive live action role playing event at the Polish castle of Czocha (aka The Czocha College of Witchcraft and Wizardry.)

Inspired by the J.K. Rowling series, the event was organized by a group of volunteers from Denmark and Poland. Those who attend the 4-day retreat are split into one of 5 houses (Durentius, Faust, Libussa, Molin, and Sendivogius) and work towards passing their S.P.E.L.L. (Senior Protective Enchanter's Lifelong License) exam.

The next event is scheduled for April 16 - 19, 2015 and costs about $345, so buy your plane tickets or warm up your brooms now!

JK Rowling has released a new Harry Potter tale for Halloween on everyone's favorite character to hate, Dolores Umbridge. She also gives us a look at what inspired the character, which as it turns out, is a teacher Rowling once had.
If you don't have a Pottermore account, you can read the full story on Today. It starts out like this:

Dolores Jane Umbridge was the eldest child and only daughter of Orford Umbridge, a wizard, and Ellen Cracknell, a Muggle, who also had a Squib son. Dolores' parents were unhappily married, and Dolores secretly despised both of them: Orford for his lack of ambition (he had never been promoted, and worked in the Department of Magical Maintenance at the Ministry of Magic), and her mother, Ellen, for her flightiness, untidiness, and Muggle lineage. Both Orford and his daughter blamed Ellen for Dolores's brother's lack of magical ability, with the result that when Dolores was fifteen, the family split down the middle, Orford and Dolores remaining together, and Ellen vanishing back into the Muggle world with her son. Dolores never saw her mother or brother again, never spoke of either of them, and henceforth pretended to all she met that she was a pure-blood.

Happy Halloween, Potterheads!

Here's why a charity is going to be out $750,000.

For those of you who don't know, a radio "drop" is just a short bit of chatter in between songs that can be an advertisement, a notification, or just a heads-up. For example, say a song just ended and suddenly you hear "YOU'RE LISTENING TO 69.0 D-E-R-P FM, DENVER'S GREATEST HITS!" Cue next song. That's a drop. Here's Floyd Mayweather trying to read one of those. It starts at 2:00 in.
