Today we bring you the sad announcement of TDW Geek's sunset from Cheezburger, as we make our way back home to the mother blog over at The Daily What. Starting now, TDW Geek will no longer be updated with new posts.

But don't be discouraged, friends! Our mission to bring you the latest news in geek culture has not changed a bit and we will remain dedicated to everything that we've covered in this corner of the Internet (possibly with more lens flare). We understand the mixed feelings about Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm. Here's why George Lucas decided to do it:

For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next. It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I've always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime.

I'm confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come. Disney's reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products.

In case you haven't heard.

For a cool $4.05 billion, Disney just scooped up Lucasfilm Ltd and Star Wars, putting them on the shelf next to Marvel, ESPN, ABC, and Pixar.

The second bombshell in the press release announced Star Wars: Episode 7 with a targeted 2015 release.

Wow. That's a lot to process. Thoughts?

Just announced via Yvette Nicole Brown's Twitter, Community is set to return to television on Thursday, February 7, at 8 p.m., taking over for 30 Rock when it ends in January.

The return may not be as soon as we'd hoped, but at least Community will be back in its old timeslot. Instead of Fridays. Or just canceled.
